Load By URL

January 20th, 2010

When users save a project as a URL, multiple access points should be shareable. Some users might wish to share the full project, others might wish to draw attention to a particular page, while others might wish to share an experience thread. Here is a draft spec for distinguishing the various URL types for loading the project. Of course if a user is not logged in, they will not have the permissions to switch from the “present” mode to the “design” mode (and of course they will only have read only permissions).

Deleting Objects Interaction

January 18th, 2010

Here is a quick scenario. When a user wishes to delete an object should we delete the one selected instance, or all of the instances including the master object? Here are two approaches of handling it. I have a preference for one but thought that for now I’ll just share the two ideas neutrally.

Cut & Paste 2

January 9th, 2010

Pauric just shared an updated  PDF sketch for the clipboard interaction. Thought I’d share it publicly. It contains some new drag and drop interactions for pasting as instance and master. Also supports different item types such as pages, objects and form elements. Awesome work! Will comment on it below.

Load With Revisions

November 27th, 2009

User Story: As a user of the system I need to be able to revert to older revisions of a project based on the time and date the revision is saved and by which user.

Notes: Since this is being built with collaboration in mind, a project may have more then one editor. Current loaded project would be expanded by default but allow the user to click on the other projects to expand the revision list. Highlight currently loaded project revision. Allow user to click on the undo arrow to select previous revisions or the revision item.

Combined Login+Sign Up Interaction

November 17th, 2009

Just found this and thought perhaps we could combine the login / register interface into one. Perhaps we could even auto detect the email field if it exists or not onChange to get the form to react in realtime showing either a “login” or “register” button.

(Sketch / Wireframe) + Prototype Combo

November 12th, 2009

Some designers will say that there is a limit to how far wireframes will go. Wireframes or sketches are good up until a point. They will cover structure and some static positioning of elements quite well. If the wireframing tool is good enough, it will even allow reuse of elements that will speed up the process.

Enter prototyping of rich internet applications. When lots of states begin emerging and changing, that’s where prototype eases the comprehensibility of work being shown. The scenario then is: why not extend wireframing or sketching with prototyping. Why not make embeddable prototypes for only those sections which need it. Could fluidia prototypes be called upon when necessary for sections of the interface that could be wirefamed in another application?

Scenario thinking here …

Login – Save – Load (Alternative #1)

November 9th, 2009

The ideea is to build the 3 elements – Login, Save and Login – in an uniform state once active / hover.

Jakub’s first sketch: the Login is active and background is applied around it; and the Save and Load are inactive, but once moved to Save the wrap background around Save needs to include Load too, although at Login it didn’t include Save or Load.

Thus, the ideea to create and wrap in background each element and to be the same regardless of what elements is chosen. The wrap background is expandable in height and width. The inactive elements are opacity 50% (example).

Any PHP Developers want to join in the team?

October 21st, 2009

Interested to get involved with an open source project? We are actively seeking a PHP developer to help build a web services API. Yes, Alex is still here integrating the backend code with the front end, but we thought one more pair of eyes would be nice. We are creating PHP functions to serve the requests from the fluidIA jQuery based client. A few hours each week is all it takes.

Some helpful experience:

  • PHP 5
  • REST
  • API

Please let me know.
Cheers,
Jakub

Easier Sketch Submissions & RSS Updates

September 29th, 2009

I’ve been meaning to make sketch or concept submissions a bit easier for a while now. Finally I managed to link a posterous.com account to the Sketches & Scenarios category which will allow anyone to submit fluidIA ideas in the form of text scenarios, images, video, audio, etc. I’ve explained how to submit such content right here, along with an appropriate email being listed visibly. The email is an image to hopefully minimize spam. Currently I have to moderate all posts, but if I see that you are a frequent contributor, I can also add you to the white list.

Secondly, I’ve also reorganized the RSS Feeds & Update section. There are now two core RSS feeds. One light one for general announcements, and another one with every blog category for people interested in the design and development process along with some rough ideas.

Enjoy.
